Portugal’s trains are clean and safe (CP Portugal).  There are fast trains such as Alfa Pendular or Intercidades and regional trains that are slower. First class seats often include availability of meals for a fee. If you are a senior, be sure to ask for the half price senior discount. The trains stop at Coimbra B station.
Coimbra B station is the central station of Coimbra, where you can catch fast trains, such as those coming from Lisbon and Oporto. There is also Coimbra A station, but it is only used to catch connecting trains from the city center to Coimbra B station and from Coimbra B to the city center.

SIGHTSEEING ON FOOT
You can visit the top tourist attractions in the historical center of Coimbra on foot: the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha, the Santa Cruz Church, the Almedina Arch, and the lively downtown streets, full of traditional shops. You can walk down the Rua da Sofia, a street classified as UNESCO World Heritage, with its beautiful churches.
From downtown to uptown and the University of Coimbra, the streets are very sloped, but the stunning view over the Mondego river and the visit to the Sé Velha and the former Paço das Escolas are worthwhile. We recommend you to visit the Old Library and the Machado de Castro Museum. The parks and gardens on the river banks are also lovely to walk along.

SIGHTSEEING IN PORTO OR LISBON
We will be posting recommended trips and sightseeing in the days before or after the conference. When planning your trip, allow extra days to visit our ancient, beautiful country.
