Humanity is currently facing a global challenge due to COVID-19. The pandemic has had a strong impact on global society, bringing challenges never seen before. It transformed individual and social ways of life, forced the discovery of new forms of communication and interpersonal relationships, changed the working world, especially in health.

Nurses have always been at the forefront of responding to the pandemic, working in the insecurity and ignorance of an emerging situation, participating in health policies and decisions, providing care to an unimaginable number of people with complex health conditions, being a crucial link in relationship between hospitalized people and families, educating and vaccinating communities to face the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The experience of dealing with the unknown, labor contingencies, the countless hours of work, fear, distance from families and the disease itself, because many of the professionals found themselves suffering from COVID-19, it is known to have an impact on nurses' mental health (Robinson & Stinson, 2021). Research shows that there was an increase in nurses' stress, depression, insomnia, anxiety and fear of infecting the family (Sampaio, Sequeira & Teixeira, 2020; Skeen, 2021). It is essential to debate the theme “COVID-19 and the impact on nurses' mental health”, based on research and on the report of experiences on mental health problems experienced by nurses throughout the pandemic. It is equally important to know and discuss intervention strategies and programs that can contribute to promoting nurses' resilience and mental health today, but with an eye to the future.

With the 6th Edition of the Phi Xi Talks of the Sigma Theta Tau's Phi Xi Chapter, it is intended to contribute to the mental health of nurses, bringing this theme to the discussion.
